In 1999, the USAF Reserve station at Pittsburgh International Airport held its first open house, which would later become the Wings Over Pittsburgh airshow.
The open house started small, with just a few static displays:
The first thing you see walking on to the apron.
The other side of the BUFF
The B-52's massive flaps
The AN/ASQ-151 Electro-Optical Viewing System, add to G and H model BUFFs
Big tail. The B-52's defensive gun turrets were removed beginning in 1991.
This C-123 will show up at all future Wings Over Pittsburgh events
The C-123's cockpit. Lots of dials and gauges.
A Bell UH-1, with one of the 911th’s C-130s in the background.
The Huey’s engine.
OV-1 Mohawk

Tomorrow: the USAF Museum.

The Mohawk has always been one of my favorites. Like the OV-10, a fantastic example of form following function. I’m digging these retro airshow shots. Keep em coning.

Oh, I’ve got seven or eight more days worth of pics scheduled.
